01 / SEE IT IN ACTION

Less “wait, what?”
More “I get it.”

A complicated subject becomes a story you can follow. Start with something familiar: paying online.

Authentication is conditional. Failures can require another payment method.

STEP 01

Start at checkout

A customer chooses how to pay. The payment begins with an amount and a currency; collecting payment details does not mean it has succeeded.

STEP 02

Confirm the intent

The payment is confirmed with a payment method. Confirmation asks the payment system to attempt the payment.

STEP 03

Complete any extra action

Some payments require an additional customer action, such as authentication. Others move on without this step.

STEP 04

Wait for the result

Some methods process asynchronously. A processing state means the final outcome is still pending.

STEP 05

Handle the outcome

A successful payment reaches succeeded. A failed attempt may require another payment method; a cancellation is another possible outcome.

STEP 06

Connect it to the order

The merchant uses the verified payment result to decide what happens to the order. The illustrated success path omits retries and method-specific branches.

Many paths, not one fixed loop.

STEP 01

Water moves into the air

Energy from the sun helps liquid water become water vapor. Plants also release water through transpiration.

STEP 02

Clouds take shape

Water vapor can condense into droplets. Clouds can also contain ice crystals.

STEP 03

Water returns to the surface

Water falls as rain, snow, or other forms of precipitation when conditions allow.

STEP 04

Some water travels over land

Water can flow across the surface and through streams and rivers toward larger bodies of water.

STEP 05

Some water enters the ground

Water can soak into soil and move into groundwater. It may remain stored or later return to surface water.

STEP 06

There is more than one path

Oceans, air, ice, soil, and groundwater store water. Transfers between them form a connected system rather than a single simple circuit.

LET’S MAKE IT VISIBLE.

Understanding a complex subject means more than collecting facts. Give the parts a place, trace their relationships, and build a picture you can follow.
